“Dance isn’t just about technique—it’s about who you become in the process”
Claire Alexander is a choreographer, educator, and creative leader who believes in the power of movement to inspire, connect, and transform. With over 25 years of experience in dance, theater, and curriculum development, she has worked with thousands of young performers, shaping not just their technique but their confidence, artistry, and love for the craft. Her work blends musical theater, jazz, tap, and contemporary styles, always driven by a deep commitment to storytelling and musicality.
Raised in her mother’s dance studio, Claire was immersed in movement from an early age. By the time she was two, she had already witnessed performances by legendary artists such as Paul Taylor, Jacques d’Amboise, MOMIX, and the Ailey Company. These early experiences shaped her understanding of dance as more than technique—it was a language of expression, a way to embody music and emotion. This philosophy guided her studies at San Jose State University, where she trained in the Limón technique and developed a choreographic voice rooted in both structure and intuition.
Following her time at SJSU, Claire became a resident choreographer and director at Children’s Musical Theater San Jose, one of the country’s largest youth musical theater programs. There, she created compelling, character-driven choreography, developed educational outreach initiatives, and mentored young artists both on and off the stage. Her ability to craft work that is both artistically rich and accessible to performers of all levels has made her a sought-after leader in arts education.
Beyond the theater, Claire has choreographed and directed numerous productions, built custom dance curricula, and led professional workshops for educators and performers alike. Her approach to teaching is rooted in joyful rigor—meeting students where they are and guiding them toward their highest potential. She emphasizes feeling before form, encouraging dancers to move with intention and authenticity. To her, dance is not just an art form but a way of understanding oneself and the world, a means of forging connections that transcend words.
Claire continues to create, mentor, and innovate, driven by a lifelong passion for movement and the belief that dance is a transformative force that builds confidence, fosters creativity, and connects communities.
